'LED' UP TO THIS...

A HUGE LEAP of faith was required to leave Shelby for the 10 days I did and go off to Virginia to follow an instinct. After much research, I found the program that I felt was the most applause worthy. Happy to have finished my bio's (Gen, Micro, A&P, etc.), the acceptance and leap felt really good. 20 years ago Mary Schreiber founded and pioneered (muscular) Sports Therapy for high performance horses (and dogs). The program and preparation for real world work was intense and insanely methodical. I LOVED EVERY SECOND of this (which was a releif).
The small class size ensured careful scepticism as we each took on our own chosen horse in the stable. We all got to know each other really well after spending 9 hours a day everyday together. MALLORY, I can not say (or type) her name without cracking up at her NC southern accent rattling around in my brain saying things like "douche bag" and "ellllll bless"! Thank God for her...literally and truly. We became instant friends and remained joined at the hip until the last second of this trip. We were made fun of by the class for this a dozen times a day. Now certified, we are all ready to get to work, so spread the word!

LET ME START FROM THE BEGINNING...

Have any of you ever flown jetBlue? Well, I now have this love/hate relationship with this particular airline. So many things happened and went wrong it wasn't even funny but boy was it fun. PLANE#1 (PHX to JFK) - flickering lights, and im talkin poltergeist flicker accompanied by a piercing buzz sound. Also on board with an entire college baseball team whose feet smelled like TOTAL CRAP, but way cool flight attendants. PLANE#2 (JFK to Washington Dulles) - plane was being towed across the tarmac when the tow bar breaks off, we run over it in the plane coming to a serious hault lodging the tow bar into the wheel aparatis of the plane. After listening to the Captain get on the intercom saying things like "I have never seen anything like this" and "Im not sure what the proceedure for this is folks" we finally got jacked up into the air to get the bar out while we are on the plane, we get deboarded and reboarded onto PLANE#3 - another plane ...THAT HAS NEVER FLOWN PASSENGERS BEFORE!! Luckily Rachel, the flight attendant from my first flight was sitting right next to me on her way home and explained a lot to me. Besides making JetBlue history it was all SUPER FUN!

After making it to D.C. alive, Liz who just moved there from Tempe (mentioned in the previous Lion King post), picked me up then picked up her wonderful mother who took us all around D.C. and into the Smithsonian where she volunteers. I didn't think I would get the chance to see it at all let alone a personal guided tour. Thank you guys soooo much and thank you to Liz and Brian and the girls for the cozy stay in your home. We all miss you here so much and Shelby misses Claire xoxo.

THE HOPE DIAMOND

After leaving D.C., I picked up my rental car and headed to class the next morning, keep in mind my flight the night before was overnight and I got less than 1 hour sleep, then this next morning I got up for class it was 4:30 am AZ time. I was beat but ran on adrenaline the rest of the day. On my way to class in my REDICULOUS bright yellow Chevy Cobalt I came upon what I very quickly ended up hating with a passion...the Toll Booth! Not only do I loathe the fact that I had to pay 2+ times per day on top of gas just to drive down the road but all the cool locals have Smart Tags that is prepaid and gets them right through; I pulled up to these foreign things not knowing jack about them into the EZ pass terminal which was the wrong spot. I needed to be in the credit card spot WAAAAAAY to the right all the way across the freeway. No one around to get me through I had to reverse going the opposite direction down the middle of the highway then drive straight across to the other end. I was lucky it was the butt crack of dawn leaving me a fairly empty road (rush hour going the other direction). On top of all of that my service air bag lights kept dinging and flashing periodically; I was convinced the thing was going to burst out randomly as I drove down the road...it would have been my luck at that point.

Sad story (I promise the trip gets better) - Some road kill on the way out to Round Hill where the program was, a momma deer and her baby both got hit. BROKE my heart right in two. On a lighter note, Virginia is beautiful; lots of 'live' deer and Canadian Geese around every corner, beautiful homes and of course the cherry blossoms famous to the area. Typical of east coasters (not all of course), the people were not very warm, although I did get offered some coke (not the drink) by a random guy at the gas station. That was sweet of him but NO THANK YOU!
The stable was lovely and legit; registered with registered in it. A few pictures from the program:

SATURDAY NIGHT FOR some fun/research Mallory, her boyfriend Brandon and I drove to West Virginia to the Charles town races. Unable to decide whether or not we hated the sport due to the lasix and other drugs pumped into these incredible athletes or loved it seeing them up close and personal in complete awe of their perfect forms and spirited nature along with the stomach flip as they 'thunder' right past you. I did love it and want to continue to advocate their good health and bring contrary tenderness to the idea that they are "just money makers".

AT THE STORE

YOU KNOW THOSE little straws (pixy stick style) of honey they sell at the check out counter at Sprouts and Whole Foods? I got one for Shelby today on our way out and this is how it went...

Getting in the car, I just bit the top off for her:

Me: "Sweetyheart girl, you have to suck on it, not bite it (like mommy did) to get the honey out, like this" (I demonstrate using a pen).

Shelby: (Trying proudly what I just showed her)"mommy...I SUCK!"

Me: (Laughing hysterically) "No 'honey', you don't suck"

PAYSON

MARCH 13TH WAS the 3 year anniversary of when my Grandmother passed away. Every year we do something fun to remember and honor her and to help my Grandfather feel comfort on that day. 2 of the 3 years we have met in Payson and had a picnic, camping style. Our family has always seemed to revolve around my Grandparents. They taught us everything. Such wonderful, amazing, wise people. I love them both dearly.

EVERYTHING IS AMAZING

SHELBY'S AUNT JILL had posted this on her blog a while back. I loved it and had to share it with my family and friends. It is so true and Louis CK is hilarious in such a realistic, matter of fact sort of way.
I always felt bad about not dwelling to long or to hard on all of the crises and disasters that plague the globe. While I feel strongly about certain things and have been affected by some of them personally and will appropriately contemplate a fire storm or current event, I have never carried the 5 o'clock news on my shoulders for long; long enough to suck the life from those around me. I always thought that maybe it was a mental survival mechanism and that I was selfish for not trying to save the world. But the thing is, we have more to be joyous about than depressed about. I believe we can be effectual by sticking to our guns in the moments that it counts and by trying to be forgiving and loving to our family, then our community, then the state and the nation will follow effecting the globe even when we are unaware of it.
Yes, I believe I could do more to change the world but I want to teach Shelby that she can feel good about herself by simply being happy and glad to be here, even if it is in the midst of disaster. This is just yet another important lesson I have learned in the past 2 years. After a divorce, fall outs with friends, dating as a mother, etc. etc. I learned to trust my own instincts concerning Shelby and myself and accept that after all of that...not everyone will love me, not everyone will even like me, but some will and some will show the meaning of unconditional friendship in the crease of hardship and some will show patience and stand back from the gossip displaying the harder task of realizing that there is in fact TWO sides to every story even if it is just for Shelby that they do that.
The point of my tangent would be to express gratitude for my good friends who know all, i mean every dirty disgraceful detail of my shame but still put life in perspective and laugh me through it and to my family and so many of Shelby's Dada's family who choose kindness over bitterness. There is always silver lining, and somehow after all the fog and ditches I am happier than I have ever been. As long as my wonderful well adjusted child is healthy and happy, I would have to agree with Louis CK...everything is amazing! Stop complaining!!!

2008/2009 GOOD FINDS (so far)

HERE ARE A few of my favorite things acquired/discovered this last year:

THIS TINY LITTLE porcelain tooth keeper. It wont be needed for a few years but this gift to Shelby from my Aunt Carol is priceless and I love it. Very special.

THIS FAMILY HEIRLOOM passed to me from Aunt Carol. I use it at my little computer desk.

THIS CROSLEY RADIO I use in the kitchen. All I had was some music on my laptop. I have never gotten so much work done so willingly in the kitchen until now. I like that it is just the AM/FM radio. It does have the "port holes ?" to hook up an ipod or CD player to it but the simplicity of this cutie warms my kitchen (plus I don't own a flippin ipod). :)

THIS LOTION, MMMMMMMmmmmmm! It smells so good and it is not to perfumy, light enough for everyday post shower use. I like the Pomegranate Sunflower but there are other 'flavors'; and bonus...its all natural!

FOUND THIS SOAP dish at Anthropologie for $12. So Pretty!

THIS DRESS FORM. I found this 50% off at JoAnn's a few months ago. Why would I need this? Well if you knew KNEW me in high school, you would know that I made most of my own shirts and dresses. We were poor people :). School shopping consisted of one trip a year to the valley and no mall...Savers and Goodwill. I was, like most girls, concerned with being somewhat fashionable. While on our $1 a shirt shopping spree I would usually look for "workable" clothes and material. My main source of inspiration (since we didn't have TV) was my moms People Magazines. I am really thankful for this blessing in disguise; and for the new dress form that will enable me to sew without poking to death my own shoulders and underarms. HOORAY!

POOR 'NAME'

HASTA LITTLE FISHY, we will miss you!

MICHAEL SEAN LASSUY

MY LITTLE BROTHER Michael's birthday is this month. As my only sibling, I got excited to blog about this amazing guy and couldn't wait until the 26th to do so. Michael Pichael Motorcycle is the nickname I bestowed upon him many MANY years ago...I still lovingly holler it at him when I see him. Mike and I have been through a lot together as a family. In school we almost always had different ideas on almost everything, but one thing never changed, we were all we had, we both love our mother, and we both have each others backs when it is serious.
We have come together a bit more in heart over the last 10 years. I have been amazed at the man he has become. Watching him cultivate his own strength and identity as his older sister has been humbling. I have watched him become a respected member of his community, a good and loyal friend to most everyone. He is honest even when its hard to be. He is a good man. He is good to the women in his life. He is a better person than I am. Me, my mom, and I know my dad are all beyond proud of who he is. My life would not be complete without my brother...not even close. Happy birthday Michael, I love you so much!
